How Boom & Hoist Lifts Work

Boom and hoist lifts use a crane-style arm mechanism to lift the wheelchair from ground level into the vehicle's cargo area. The arm swings out over the side or rear of the vehicle, hooks onto or cradles the wheelchair, lifts it, and swings it into the cargo space.

They require less floor space than platform lifts, making them a better fit for vehicles with smaller cargo areas or when you need to preserve some cargo space alongside the stored chair.

Boom lifts are available in powered and semi-powered configurations. Some models can be operated with one hand, and most fold away compactly when not in use.
