Occupant Restraints
Seatbelt systems engineered for passengers who ride seated in their wheelchair during transport.
Crash-tested safetyWhat Occupant Restraints Do
Occupant restraints are seatbelt systems designed specifically for wheelchair-seated passengers. Standard vehicle seatbelts are engineered for factory vehicle seats and don't provide proper restraint geometry for someone seated in a wheelchair.
Occupant restraints mount to the vehicle floor and walls at positions calculated for wheelchair seating height and position, providing the correct belt angles across the lap and shoulder. They are always used in combination with a wheelchair securement system (either docking or tie-downs) — the securement holds the chair, the restraint holds the person.
Available in manual and powered retractable configurations. All systems meet or exceed FMVSS crash safety standards.
