How Docking Systems Work

Docking systems provide the fastest and most convenient wheelchair securement method. A docking base mounts to the floor of the wheelchair-accessible vehicle, and a corresponding adapter attaches to the underside of the wheelchair.

To secure the chair, the user simply rolls into position and the wheelchair locks into the dock automatically or with a simple manual latch. Disconnecting is equally fast. There are no straps to thread, no hooks to attach, and no manual tightening.

Docking systems are ideal for daily-use scenarios where the wheelchair user enters and exits the vehicle frequently. They meet FMVSS and WC-18 crash safety standards when properly installed and paired with an appropriate occupant restraint system.

Ideal For: Power wheelchair users who ride in their wheelchair inside a converted van and need to secure their chair quickly and frequently. The speed and simplicity of docking makes daily use practical — commuting, errands, medical appointments — without the time cost of manual tie-downs for every trip.
